let's start with a look at the wake up weather and jennifer hill. good morning. >> good morning. cool out there this morning. scott had his nice cardigan when he walked in. 55 degrees in fairfield. 56 in san jose and 56 in concord. by noon things are warming up. it has been cool and things are going to die down. high pressure is building and we will talk about a steamy weekend forecast. we can put the cardigan away. >> let's talk to mike and talk traffic. >> i didn't know you wore a cardigan in. we will see how things are moving on 880 northbound. we are looking at what's coming towards us from hayward and you will see construction marked there. no slowing through the scene from davis up to 90. you might find a lane blocked, but from the same angle, the headlights are moving and we don't see anything visible from the coliseum, but not as far

south as the marina. northward as far as that maze. east shore freeway, no delays. no overnight wind advisory for the bridge itself, but we have surface street issues that might affect highway 24. more important than traffic, that's the bigger issue. i will handoff to you. >> new this morning, tensions running high in one community where crews working to cap a gas leak that leaked for some families out of their home overnight. christie smith is live in orinda with the latest on the leak. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. pg&e crews are out here working hard to cap this leak, but it's not capped yet. the entire downtown area of orinda is cordoned off. we see fire trucks and yellow tape around ba raga way.

a heightened sense of concern after what happened in san bruno. i spoke with the city manager who told me what happened is that an outside contractor was working on repaving a project around 11:15 last night. when the crew hit a natural gas line. originally there was panic here and initial reports were this was a six-inch line. it turns out there was only two inches and crews are having to ex-cavate around the back hoe that was doing the work here. about a dozen homes were evacuated as a precaution. those families are back home this morning. if you know the area, this is behind the bev mo store behind peet's coffee. they are trying to get it cleared up because this is a popular thoroughfare and people come to get coffee there. you pass by if you are going to the bart station and highway 24. they are trying to get this

reopened as quickly as possible. they say if the area is still blocked, they will have people out there later this morning helping to direct traffic. live in orinda, christie smith, today in the bay. >> san leandro police want to find a man who posed as an officer and stole cash from a woman on a busy stretch of 14th street near 148th avenue in san leandro. vicki nguyen has more on the bogus cop. . >> reporter: rush hour tuesday afternoon. a woman is robbed by a man dressed and armed like a police officer. >> military-style uniform similar to what a s.w.a.t. officer would wear. >> the imposter asked her if she was on drugs and demanded to see her id and robbed her of $200 before getting away.

black suv, possibly a chevy tahoe with flashing lights on the grill is almost identical to the new under cover cars. vicki nguyen, bay area you 92s. >> a coast to coast cocaine ring has ties to the east bay. 22 people charged in the decade-long conspiracy. the smugglers traffic cocaine from california to pennsylvania. federal prosecutors unsealed the indictment and 16 of the 22 are from california. from oakland, hayward and san jose. prosecutors say a 40-year-old man from tracy provided most of the cocaine. another man from stockton actually lost 41 pounds of the drug on a southwest airline flight bound for pittsburgh. 15 others are under arrest. more demolition in san bruno this morning as this time part of the clean up.

crews expected to work six days a week cleaning the blast zone. it will likely stir up dust. some people living near the rupture plan to wear dust masks while outside. most say they are ready for work to get under way so people can rebuild and make the neighborhood feel like home again. >> i can see it looking like a fly. i have not seen that. having that back will make me feel better. i will know he's back and makes him feel better. part the coroner was able to identify the remains of a woman, her sewn and his son. this pushes the official death toll from the september 9th blast to seven. we have known for sometime thanks to the family that the family died in the explosion. another cut for bay area transit agencies. in a meeting last night, the board of directors voted

unanimously to cut weekend bus service in half. four of six late night lines will be eliminate and save transit $11 million a year and eliminate about 90 union jobs. ac transsit trying to plug a $56 million deficit. >> approximate are a warning for parents, walnut creek police are looking for a man who tried to lure a child into a car tuesday afternoon. two men in a dark blue chevy suv and said the boy's mom sent them to pick him up. they did get a look at the two men. they hope to release a sketch later today. the men described as while males in their 30s and 40s. the one he got a good look at is heavy, build, with green eyes and a goatee. >> trying former bart police

officer mehserle for the shooting of oscar grant. it was moved from oakland after they won a change of venue. the move cost the county of alameda more than $25,000 in airfare and $55,000 for lodging. mehserle is expected to be sentenced november 5th in l.a. today's bart board will vote on whether to rename one of the stations. community groups asked bart to change the name of the pleasant hill station to pleasant hill contra costa center. that covers some 2800 homes. according to bart, changing the maps, train schedules, station signs and brochures will cost $413,000. community groups volunteered to cover some of the those costs.

. >> good morning, folks. getting set to start the day. through downtown o rind a you might have trouble getting your coffee because of the gas leak. that is affecting mo raga way through downtown and as far as i know, it affected the delivery truck for peet's coffee. that might affect you towards highway 24. highway 24 itself is moving out of lafayette. both westbound doors open. getting out to livermore, folks are hitting the roadway, but 13 minutes out of the pass and continuing to cut through for highway 84 where folks move down to 680. that will get slow around 6:15 in the morning. very light volume with the tail lights southbound through the area. the merge towards that express lane. keep that in mind. a little bit of distraction. so far we have seen no major

livermore going to hit 80 degrees and it's going to get downright hot this weekend. we are following developing news. three people shot in an oakland club on webster street. they arrived before 2:00 this morning and found two injured people inside.

good morning. going out to the roadways. the traffic is moving nicely over to the westbound side. no major delays from the east bay. a look at the maps, we are looking at a smooth drive and the camera is not shaking. i wanted to point out something going on southbound at 680. around diablo road, reports of a car's grill on the roadway. they might have to run a quick traffic break. westbound highway 4 traffic moving smoothly. no major delays or problems, but a slow down will start around 5:15. you might want to get ahead of schedule to beat the back up. >> jennifer hill joining us. no cardigan for me, but i did leave the window fan going last night. for most people it's still last night, but for our last night and woke up freezing. >> yeah, but that window fan is

going to come in handy over the next couple of days. a cool start at 57 degrees in fremont and 56 in oakland. not a lot of fog around which is good news for the commute. low clouds along the coast. at noon we are looking at a lot of sunshine warming things up to 75 in livermore. 77 in fairfield and 76 in concord and 74 in gilroy. forecast highs making it back into the 80s and this weekend, places like livermore and fairfield will be into the 90s and some locations we might see triple-digits thanks to high pressure making a come back. as it does, temperatures warming through the weekend and the coast will hit temperatures in the 70s. even though it's fall, we are going to forecast a summer-like forecast. make sure the window fan is in good repair. california has the most billionaires on the forbes list of the 400 richest people.

none of them work here. that's why we need to know what's going on and we turn to courtney reagan. good morning, courtney. >> good morning to you, scott. investors put the september stock work on hold yesterday and by the way, gold is closing in on $1300 an ounce. the fed said they are ready to take more action to boost the economy. most asian markets are closed. europe is lower. we will get the update on unemployment filings later this morning. the dow lost 21 points on wednesday and we will start at 10,739. the nasdaq was off by 14 points to 2334. gm reportedly plans to sell a majority of shares in the upcoming ipo to u.s. investors. the company will be setting a low share price in the 20 to $25 range through a stock split. this is a common move to attract

more retail investors. without a split, the government said gm would have to price at $134 apiece for taxpayers to recoup the $40 billion bailout of the auto maker. you can get your piece of gm if you so desire. back to you. >> blockbuster declared bankruptcy. shares for netflix jumping. shares gained 6.61% to close under $157. this move by blockbuster into chapter 11 will allow them to focus on digital description and close hundreds of stores. today's news has no effect on your account. you still have to return your movies. soon your morning jolt may have less to do with caffeine and more to do with price. the world's biggest coffee chain is raising prices. starbucks said it's due to the rising price of coffee beans.

impacted. the yellow tape is up and crews are out there. fire trucks still out there. no one is leaving because of a concern over what went on. the city manager tells us an outside contractor was working on a paving project late last night when the contractor hit a gas line. neighbors in about a dozen homes were advised to leave because initially the thought was this was a six-inch gas line and it turns out it was two inches. this happened about 11:30 and we talked about the added sense of urgency. >> it might be a six-inch line and this might have been a typical response. the fact that everyone is station around to make sure nothing goes wrong is probably due to the heightened sensitivity due to what happened in the city of san bruno. >> reporter: originally the city manager told us that all of

downtown was basically blocked off by fire trucks and the emergency drew crews down there. no access. what they are telling us now is at least part of the area is open around the area and they're doing the best to clear this up. christie smith, today in the bay. >> thank you. the raiders have a new starting quarterback. he will start sunday in arizona. they benched the starter after just a game and a half. he replaced campbell in the second half of last sunday's game and sparked the raiders to a win. the philadelphia daily news getting headlines. it refers to michael vick as top dog. vick is now the starting qb for the eagles and he had legal trouble over dogs. vick and the eagles are coming in three weeks and you can see that game here on nbc bay area.

>> one run in 18 innings. that is the scoring line for the giants the last two nights. now despite support on the road in chicago, the giants find themselves back in second place. baseball can be humbling. buster posey goes from hero to not so much in the space of a few hour, striking out twice last night. he had a rough night behind the plate as well. a passed ball will make for a throwing error. the giants could not score. shutout for the 16th time this season. if you don't score at all, you can't win. giants lose 2-0. the giants drop into second place and a half game behind san diego. the a's are playing out, getting a look at cris carter. carter launched his first big career, big league home run wednesday. not enough. the white sox rally late.

the former st. marys star got the game winning double. the white sox avoid the sweep and the a's host the first place rangers later today. beautiful if you are heading out to the game today. 50 degrees in livermore. still a bit cool outside, but we are expecting temperatures to warm up today. also the winds will not be as strong as they were yesterday. we are reporting calm winds. calm in livermore and calm winds in gilroy. whether headlines. it's going to be warming up and we are forecasting highs into the 80s in the east bay. as we head into the weekend, that's when the heat turns on. 90s and triple digiis are possible. air quality is great. we are talking low numbers. we can breathe deeply today. not a lot of cloud cover.
